A “heat pump” has a technology that is now refined (refrigerant fluid, compressor/expansion valve, coils, evaporator, condenser, etc.). It performs thermal energy transfers. On one side, there is a source from which it draws energy; on the other, there is a dissipation space where this energy is sent. Under the effect of a heat pump, the temperature of the source decreases, while that of the arrival zone increases. In winter, your house is the dissipation zone (heating), the source being simply the outside air. In summer, things reverse (air conditioning): the rooms of the house become the source.
